Here it is...

Back by popular request - recipe of the week.

Having just had the first asparagus spears from the extensive Bigenor vegetable plot, recipe of the week is asparagus (pleasingly I believe our crop beats Garson's of Esher pick your own farm????!):

Firstly mix 1/2 tonne of well rotted horse manure into a patch of well-dug soil. Plant some asparagus crowns as per manufacturer's instructions.

Wait for about three years, then cut the spears just below ground when they appear in April. Steam immediately, smother with butter, salt and pepper, and eat.

ALSO, on the topic of food and drink, the total consumption of various items over the four day weekend has finally been tallied up:

115 mugs of tea (PG Tips Loose Tea); 88 Hot Cross Buns; 18 Bottles Wine; 2 Bottles Cider; 48.5 pints bitter (guess who had the 1/2 pint!); 4 Gin and Tonics (can't think who had these...); 2 Grouse whisky; 2 chickens; 1 large gammon; 1 side of beef (4 ribs).

Jero.

NEVER - will anyone beat Garsons finest Asparagus - if this is a challenge I except on behalf of Old Farmer Bob?!

Asparagus updates available at www.garsons.co.uk - another fine website by young Vicko Buzzardo ...

TOP TIP:
Try throwing a generous handful of spears on the BBQ, a little butter and only five minutes cooking time...

Yes Buzzard, it is a challenge and I am glad you accept!

I think a blind tasting might be in order. Having looked at the fine Garsons website and signed up to the e-newsletter I still do believe our asparagus are earlier than Garsons - a sign of quality!

Ahhh, I see young man - yes, the farm's gates are still firmly locked until this weekend - however the special few have a key and so Asparagus tastings have already taken place!

Perhaps a Strawberry-Taste-Off should be next.......!

Last night it appears that something or someone has been stealing some of our asparagus - suspicion falls at the door of the buzzard clan - clearly trying to sabotage our efforts!

Aha, Jackie at Garsons Farm tells me that asparagus will not be ready for picking by the general public until May 1st - that's quite some time to wait!

Keep them waiting - that's the key - shall I send them in the meantime down to Sussex?!

I guess Dave Flintstone had the half pint. Think its the norm in the diesel engine industry.

Can confirm the top BBQ asparagus tip above - very good indeed... (though just slightly better with Bigenor asparagus than Garson's asparagus I expect.....!!!)

Buzzard I on the other hand is not nearly ready for it's MOT this Saturday... Vicko Buzzardo has been drafted in to help with garage duties such as throttle linkages, bulkhead panels and chocolate crunch!
